Hornet Nest Removal — New London Yard

Inspection

A New London homeowner discovered a large, gray, basketball-sized bald-faced hornet nest hanging in a yard tree near where the kids play. Bald-faced hornets are aggressive and will sting repeatedly if the nest is disturbed — a serious risk for a family yard.

What We Found

• An active bald-faced hornet nest about 12 feet up in a yard tree
• Heavy hornet traffic across the lawn and play area
• A second small nest starting under the nearby shed eave

Treatment

We treated the nest at dusk when the hornets were all inside and less defensive, then removed the entire nest so it could not be reoccupied. The starter nest under the shed eave was treated and removed as well.

Follow-Up

Zero hornet activity the next day and the yard was safe again. We advised the homeowner to check shed eaves and tree branches each July — the peak hornet and wasp season in New London.
