Bed Bug Treatment — New London Apartment

A bed bug infestation in a New London apartment was eliminated with a heat-based treatment and follow-up monitoring.

The Field Report

Inspection

A New London renter woke up with itchy bites in a line and found small blood spots on the mattress seams — classic signs of bed bugs. Bed bugs travel easily on luggage and used furniture, so an infestation can appear in any home regardless of cleanliness.

What We Found

  • Live bed bugs and eggs in the mattress seams and behind the headboard
  • Dark fecal spots along the mattress piping and box spring
  • Bed bugs harboring in the cracks of the bed frame and nearby baseboards

Treatment

We treated the mattress, box spring, bed frame, and surrounding baseboards with targeted applications, encased the mattress and box spring in bed-bug-proof encasements, and installed monitoring traps under the bed legs. The tenant was advised on laundry protocols to kill any bed bugs in bedding and clothing.

Follow-Up

A two-week follow-up confirmed no new bites and no activity on the monitors. A second targeted treatment addressed the few remaining harborage spots. The apartment is now bed-bug-free with monitoring in place.
